James P. Shea Certified by the National Board of Legal Specialty Certification

On June 16, 2008, James P. Shea became certified by the National Board of Legal Specialty Certification. The NBLSC is a non-profit organization designed to help aid clients in choosing experienced legal representation. The board certifies attorneys as civil, criminal, family law, and Social Security Disability Specialists as is the case with Mr. Shea. Board certification signifies that an attorney has met the rigorous standards approved by the U.S. Supreme Court and the American Bar Association. In order to be certified, an attorney must be a member of the bar in good standing who has worked as a practicing attorney for at least five years. He/she must have a 30% concentration in Social Security Disability for at least the past three years, submit six legal writing documents prepared and filed within the past thee years, have participated in at least thirty- six hours of continuing legal education in the area of Social Security Disability in the last three years, have appeared in no fewer than 100 Social Security Disability Hearings, have filed no less than twenty appeals council briefs, and have filed no less than ten briefs in United States District Court. As of February, 2009, Mr. Shea is one of four attorneys in California to be board certified by the NBLSC for Social Security Disability Advocacy.
